Rob Tétrault with Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew during Run With Rob 2023.

Two weeks ago, Manitoba’s Budget 2024 brought us remarkable news in healthcare, filling our hearts with joy. The big highlight was the commitment to universal newborn screening for Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a crucial step for the health of Manitoba’s youngest.

Robert Tétrault, President and Founder of the Canadian CMV Foundation, played a key role in making this happen. For over 15 years, Tétrault has been advocating for CMV screening, driven by his personal experience when his son was diagnosed with the virus. His dedication, supported by many, has led to this historic moment. The TSN Turning Point came when Premier Wab Kinew joined Tétrault and pediatric infectious disease specialist Dr. Jessica Dunn in last year’s Run With Rob in Winnipeg, marking a pivotal moment of awareness and collaboration.

To Premier Wab Kinew, Manitoba Health Minister Uzoma Asagwara, and the entire Manitoba government, the Canadian CMV Foundation expresses deep gratitude for your steadfast support. Your commitment to prioritizing children’s health sets an inspiring example for communities across the country.

As we mark this historic achievement, let’s renew our pledge to support healthcare initiatives that ensure no child is left behind. Together, we can create a future where every child has the chance to thrive, without the burden of preventable illnesses like congenital CMV.
