Emmett’s Story

Emmett was born in January 2018 at 40 weeks after a relatively uncomplicated pregnancy. His hearing was tested within the first 24 hours, and while his right ear passed, he got a ‘refer’ result for his left ear. Otherwise, he was perfectly healthy.  We were told it’s normal to get a ‘refer’ during the infant hearing screening, particularly with C-section babies, and were advised to follow up a month later.   At one month old, Emmett again got a ‘refer’ in… Read more »

Hannah’s Story

Hannah was born May 15, 2010.  It started off as a normal pregnancy. I was showing to be a lot smaller than I was with my first, which pushed my OB to order a few extra ultrasounds. These ultrasounds showed that our child’s head was small for her age. They said maybe it was normal, maybe it was this or that, but not to be too alarmed at 36 weeks. I ended up going for an ultrasound one early morning in… Read more »

Since experiencing their own journey with cCMV, the Robinsons have become determined to advocate for greater awareness, prevention, detection and management of cCMV. They are… Read more »

Newborn CMV Screening – CMV Story with William Jones

June 18, 2020 – It was such a pleasure speaking with William Jones about his family’s journey with CMV. William’s daughter, Francesca, was the first baby identified with CMV thanks to Ontario’s new screening program. The province recently became the first jurisdiction in the world to implement universal CMV screening. This means that every newborn is now tested for CMV! Early detection and intervention is crucial when it comes to CMV and hearing loss. It’s time to start screening in… Read more »

Maeve’s Story

On August 15, 2018, our family welcomed Maeve to the world. I was induced at just over 41 weeks. It was an uncomplicated pregnancy and a smooth labour that had our sweet daughter in our arms just a few hours after being induced. As part of the normal newborn screening program in Ontario, Maeve had her hearing screening the morning after she was born. Our province provides universal newborn hearing screening to detect newborn babies with any potential permanent hearing… Read more »

Grace’s Story

After a mostly uneventful pregnancy, Grace came rushing into the world in the middle of the night in late November, 2012 at 38.5 weeks. She was tiny, but she had this full head of black hair which surprised us all! The “mostly” uneventful pregnancy included one hiccup – at Grace’s 20-week scan, she had a slightly enlarged kidney and an echogenic bowel. The OB said these were not things to worry about, and an ultrasound would be performed on Grace… Read more »
